I'm a former soldier and I know that it is hard to get out of the army in an irregular way. For me it wasn't necessary. I didn't serve during a war.
American soldiers in Germany are serving during a war. They were in Iraq and then came to Germany. Here they had time to think over their doubts.
An article in "Der Spiegel" gave me the idea to offer it to you. It is nothing new and not breaking - despite it might be worth reading.

Dear friends, This is nothing new for you. No breaking news at all. I am confronted with the real republican world. I knew about this world - but I wasn't shure, if it is real. It. is. real.
I met a nice elder American lady this summer. She travelled through Europe and came to our house (in Germany). We had a good time during the afternoon and we have email-contact with her.
I had a short political discussion with her. We continued this discussion through email. I got a hate speech from "the ghost of General Patton". It tells me that beheading is a atrocity (right) and all the other things about torture and stuff (Abu Ghraib) is only a game of frat boys - don't worry. The only chance to get rid of terror is, to kill all (yes all) muslims. And do this killing as long as you have the chance to do it (now in ME). If Americans have problems with their life - they shouldn't blame the government for that. That's their own fault. A classical hate speech from the neo-cons (as I learned at Dkos). Then I got some crap about 9/11 - a common email , that probably circled in her circle of friends.
I know that I disgust you - don't kill me for that.
Thinking purple means to me: I listen and try to figure out what the context is. I ignore my reservations and try to find out what is ok or what is not ok. I try to be objective. It is easier for me than for you, I guess.
I watched your Big Leader in case of the frontier and the immigrants (op-ed in Yuma). I noticed his presentation and I heard his claiming to God (nation based on God and something about the allmighty). I didn't only watch - I listended also. It sounded plausible in the context.
I don't refer to the immigrants who are in the US already. I think at the immigrants who sneake the border illigally and try to get some work in the US. I understand that very well. But I understand as well, that a State can't allow that just like that.

Racist or not - I'm in a conflict
I live in a coutry that is an open country. Everybody can come here and enjoy life. Germany has a islamic population of about 5% (of the population).
In the internet I found a statement that says: Germany has to put in a second oficially language: turkish.
NO - I disagree. I don't want the turkish language as a second language.
My second thought was - when we agree to that, in about 20 years I have to submit a permission to live here because I don't want to speak turkish.
This is an exaggeratedly position - I know. Within this position I hear A. Coulter (blah, blah).
I'm trying to be a liberal (it is not that easy as some people think). I don't want to hit somebody and I don't want to devaluate someone.
Isn't it funny with us? We propagendize tolerance and very deep in our hearts (thinking) we are the opposite (or am I alone with it).
I hink it is worth to think over it. Aren't we all racists - in one or the other way?
This is no rant - it is a solution (for the whole world). It is also not a common diary, because I have no proves. Don't bash me for that.
I watched Dkos since almost 18 month and some of you guys saw a silver strike at the horizon. I see it with a golden glance (right in the middle). Time is working out for you.
I just want to give you a little help and therefore I wrote a letter to your current president. I don't care about my poor spelling - it must have to be said.
This are good news to you - and you still need good news.
Are americans that stupid to follow the president a second time (regarding a war). He just said again, that he has the "preemption option" on the table against Iran.
Who does believe, that the Iran is a direct danger for the US. I saw the "unvisible" plane the Iran has. It is a sports plane with one guy in the front and probably no room for more. Mr. Blix said that the Iran is not able to have an nuclear weapon now - at the earliest in about five years.
As we all know: Mr Bush is telling a lot and he does what he wants. He doesn't care if people want to try other possibilities. He is the major power man and the US has to follow him anyway - and they may do it, if there is no one to stop him. This guy has the finger at the trigger and is able to pull it (everybody knows it).
In Germany we have an government office where we can bring in petitions. If Mr. Bush would be the German chancellor (thanks God he is not) this office would have enough to do for years to go through the petitions against a war.

A lot of people ask, where their taxes go to. I have an idea and an article out of "Der Spiegel" (a German political magazine) that tells you where your money goes.
Rumsfeld explicated, that the insurgents are more clever in propaganda as the U.S. So he wants to rearm his propaganda troops ($75 mill).
"We love you - please, dear muslims, love us too (right now)". The world is full of peace (one only has to find it).

The Avian Flu is in Germany now.
The first contingences were found on an island in the Eastern Sea. Hundrets of dead swans and other birds (Ducks, geese) were found there - a high percentage with the virus H5N1. The cadavers were lying everywhere for some days and other animals ate them (foxes, crows, predatory birds, wild cats and martens). All these animals are spreading the flu - and die - and so on. Nobody thought about that possibility before.

It might be unusual to grouch about a community member - I do it.
I live with dkos since more then 14 month (daily). The most I learn is very important for me. I get informed about things and developments outside the MSM and I know, what about 20 or 30 percent of the Americans think and do.
But sometimes there are people who aren't able to even think. They put that, what their poor kwowledge is into a mixer - shake it - and out comes "their wisdom" about the world and about how the world should be.
Ok - that happens all over the world. But in this community I think, people should be careful with classifications (especially with very common classifications).
I'm mad and I say that. Lode Runner - be more careful - please. Your walls (in the net) are virtuell - everybody can look throuhgh this walls.

Yes - they are criminal. They have Gitmos all over the world. Because it is not allowed to have them in the States (how hypocritically) - they have it in Guantanamo, in the Middle East - and in Eastern Europe now too.
With that damn war they came near to Europe. With their "guantanamos" they are already in Europe. We don't need your kind of war. We don't want your "guantanamos"!!!

It is horrible to hear, that the States fight the "war against terrorism" elsewhere in the world - not in th US. We don't want "your" war of terrorism. Fight it by yourselve. It is a kind of a fictional war.
I tell you what: Stay at home, pray to your Gods and leave the rest of the world in peace.

I'm very concerned about the politics of the USA. Right now they got a good reason from the UN to act against Syria. Syria is in trouble because of their actions in Libanon. It is good, that a neutral commission investigated the murder of a politician in Libanon. I heard Bolton and Rice talking about it. It made me fear, that the US will take that as a half legal reason to strike Syria. And the most terrible thing is: your Big Leader knows, where the red button for nuclear weapons is - and he is the only one who can push it. He is prepared for this kind of shit.
These conflicts are in the neighbourhood of Europe. The US administration will fight somewhere to keep the fight out of the own country. That is very cynical.That means: The main thing is, I'm safe - shit on the rest (of the world). And even that is not true. The US is as endangered as we are - and as before 9/11.
Where are the neoliberal and the liberal and left politicians of America. Isn't it the right time to stand up and say the truth? Isn't it the right time for their own carreer - or what.

I got a letter from John Kerry. He is begging for a contribution, because he will fight against Karl Rove, Sen Santorum and, and and. Ok - I am no American. I don't understand, that a politician speaker cannot say anything that is heard without collecting money. I cannot and I will not give him that money (I'm a German).
Why does he cry for a contribution. He should cry that loud, that the MSM is hearing him. He should stand up and say what he has to say (it is right, what he has to say), even if they hear him or not. When he is not heard - he has to create a media system (I don't know how it is called) that shows up, what he is thinking. All politicians in America have enough money to do that (that's what I learned from Dailykos).
Ok - he needs the blogossphere too - but that is not the only solution. Is money the solution? - adds and so on? No - Cindy Sheehan is showing the way. To do something - not to talk or discuss about it only (Kossaks like to discuss very much).
He doesn't speak German, he has no experiance in diplomacy - but he is a devoted supporter of Pres. Bush.

In the short notification from the W.H. on Tuesday is written in four short sentences about William Timken's career: studies in economy, boss of a big family company, since two years retired. That's it.
Why "Super Ranger"? - Guys who bring more then $ 300.000 into the fund of the republic party get that name. Timken collected $600.000 in only one fund raiser during the election 2004 in Ohio.
A "Ranger" has to pay (collect) at least $200.000 and a "Pioneer" at least $100.000. The "Super Rangers"get the acceptance to an exclusive circle of friends of the Pres. They sometimes get a nice job as embassador as a reward.

Is money the only yardstick for everything? Sorry - it sounds very funny to me. Kings and emperors in former times (200 and more years ago) acted like that - but today we live in 2005 - don't we?

The two parties in the U.S. are democratic.
The Reps are that democratic that they try to bring their democracy to the rest of the world (democracy ist much older than the the States are).
The Democrats are more sensible. They try to beware democracy in the U.S.
What is the difference of these two democratic parties in the Name (and in the program)?
In Europe they habve their program in the name. The right-wingers call themselves the christian democrats and the lefties call themselves socialist democrats.
The christians should be social too - but the aren't really. The socialist's are working for the middle class and the poor (That doesn't work also not very good).
The democrats are the socialists of the U.S. What about Democratic Sociaslists. That would show the program in their name.To oppose a social party shows who is against social policy.
Reps and Dem-Soc's - both together cover the whole population. Reps for the upper class and Dem-Socs for the rest. If the Dem-Socs sell their program professionally - who do you think will win?

Your Mr. President is coming to Germany next month. He will have a round-table-conservation with normal people too (30 minutes). I have no chance to get an invitation (I'm just a citizen). So I am writing an open letter to your President in dailykos. Dailykos is known over here too - not very well - but people know it.
Mr. President,
you promised the Americans and the rest of the world a lot of things in the last few years: more securitiy (terrorists), more democracy (America), more cooperation (Europe) - no promise came true.
We now live in a world, that is more and more insecure (because you gave the terrorists a good base in Iraq)
Democracy is going down in your own country - you sell freedom for security (Franklin) - how shall it be a great thing for the rest of the world? Forget it!
Cooperation is only a thing of your own interests. Other meanings have no chance.
