Obama/Feingold '08
Wed Aug 13, 2008 at 10:17:06 PM PDT
Here is the 4th installment of possible tickets. Before I have discussed Schweitzer, Richardson, and Chafee. Below the cut I talk about some of the pros and cons of Russ Feingold taking the #2 position.
Is Clinton a bottom (of the ticket gal)?
Wed Jun 04, 2008 at 12:08:18 AM PDT
As an Obama supporter I have been dissappointed by the tone of Clinton's campaign these past 2 month--and to top it off--she didn't even congratulate him tonight on this historic of historic nights. My friend and I had a discussion about it and despite my dissappointment with Clinton's non-congratulatory speech I realized that there are two compelling arguments for putting her on the ticket (and zillions of reasons not to).
I still hope Obama goes for the Webb or Gore or Schweitzer or Richardson pick but I think there is something behind this rationale for a Clinton VP nod.

Obama/Richardson '08
Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 06:00:57 PM PDT
Here's the 3rd installment of my 'Ticket Talk' series. The first two were about the advantages of either Brian Schweitzer or Lincoln Chafee running on the ticket with Barack. Now that Richardson has endorsed he becomes not only a more viable choice but also more likely than before.

Obama/Chafee '08
Thu Feb 28, 2008 at 12:42:05 PM PDT
Continuing on from my last post about a suggested Obama/Schweitzer ticket I have my 2nd 'unconventional' suggestion, Obama/Chafee.
First of all to give a quick background for those unfamiliar with Lincoln Chafee--he was the Republican Senator from Rhode Island who lost to Sheldon Whitehouse in November 2006 despite having good job approval (in other words he lost because he had an R next to his name (which I agree was enough of a reason to boot him then). He quietly re-registered as an Independent since then.
Reasons for this proposal are below the cut:

My buddy and I were doing some 'ticket talk' on the evening of the Potomac Primaries and the idea of Schweitzer (Governor of Montana) being picked as Obama's VP really excited both of us. I've seen Schweitzer on Real Time and he really impressed me.

17 Lame Co-Sponsors of Cheney Impeachment
Tue Nov 06, 2007 at 11:10:44 PM PDT
As you may have read in Kagro X's post and other's posted comments about Kucinich's Cheney impeachment resolution you would have discovered that there were 21 co-sponsors to this resolution. You may not realize that when the vote to table this to the Judiciary committee came up only 4 of the co-sponsors voted NO to tabling--in other words 17 of the 21 effectively mothballed their own damm resolution.
The 4 co-sponsors who have cajones:
Filner, Kaptur, Waters, Towns
UPDATE -- It appears only 1 other co-sponsor voted to not table not 4 which means the title of this diary should be 20 Lame Co-sponsors of Cheney Impeachment

An argument Against Proposition 89?
Fri Oct 27, 2006 at 02:27:54 PM PDT
I have been leaning toward Proposition 89 ever since I started my initial research a few weeks ago and after viewing the wonderful segment on
PBS's NOW which showcased Arizona which passed a similar (NOT identical) law several years back. As part of my research I usually look at some publications which have some idealogical overlap with my own views. I typically look at (in order of overlap with my own views): The LA Weekly, The SF Bay Guardian, The LA Times and The SF Chronicle. (Please suggest others!)
So my conern is that the SF Chronicle makes a point in its analysis of Proposition 89 that 'certain labor unions' would be exempt from campaign donation restrictions while others would not--a HUGE concern since labor unions were a big reason we were able to defeat Arnie's slate of awful propositions last year.

Six Bottles For Six Seats (Election Night Party Idea)
Wed Aug 30, 2006 at 06:40:06 PM PDT
For those of you who intend to host an election night party this November I have this suggestion:
Purchase and chill 6 bottles of champagne.
Each of these bottles can be assigned to each of the six Senate seats the Democrats need to gain control of that chamber. Each bottle can be chosen to truly reflect the nature of that race, the sitting incumbent or the challenger.
Open each bottle as respective Senate race is called for the Democratic challenger by one of the major networks...to make it juicier have Fox be said network! More about the booze choices after the fold!
Joe Klein Can Lick My Left Blognutmeg
Sun Aug 13, 2006 at 02:49:09 PM PDT
Joe Klein at Time Magazine brands us Kossacks as `blognuts' in his analysis of the Lieberman loss last Tuesday in his article "
Three Cheers For Trangulation" that was posted today on Time Magazine's website. In additional to a blatant factual inaccuracy, Klein attempts to advance the idea that Eli Pariser, Executive Director of MoveOn.org, and his ilk are going to steer the Democrats back towards its "stupid excesses" of the 70's and 80's--his words not mine.
Lieberman's automated e-mail response
Thu Aug 10, 2006 at 10:37:19 AM PDT
Yesterday I used Senator's Lieberman's website to send him an electronic message informing him of my dissappointment that he was choosing to run as an indepedent...which I
also posted as a diary yesterday.
This is the automated response I got from him. In a nutshell, he states that his office is unable to "research and address" comments from out-of-staters implying his dedication and respect to the citizens of Connecticut--guess that doesn't go for primary results by same citizenry (or at least the democrats who bothered to vote).
Complete letter below:
I am a Democrat and I support Democrats

My letter to Senator Lieberman
I am a loyal supporter of the Democratic Party. I lost my electoral virginity back in 1988 in a poorly heated fire house in a Philadelphia suburb and have never been the same since....
Let's Boot Some Homophobes From Congress!
Sat Aug 05, 2006 at 01:51:22 AM PDT
I decided to spend my lunch today reading diaries on dailykos and get up to speed on stuff other than the Lamont-Lieberman primary. I came upon
Paradox13's dairy of a hate crime in Virgina and
exconservative's diary about a
hate crime in San Diego after the gay pride celebration there....and then I got frustrated. Having been out for 12 years I've seen a lot of improvement for our lot...but also some huge setbacks. I've grown to accept intolerant behavior from the lesser parts of society--and just dismiss it by saying "they just don't know better." But when its our elected officials and leaders in our society who know better I can't dismiss it. And that's why I got frustrated at lunch....these elected officials just get away it. And there's so many of them
And then I came up with a way I could help in some small way and get my friends and family to help.
Calling All Floridians (to run for office)
Thu Jun 08, 2006 at 08:11:30 PM PDT
Gerrymandering. We've all heard the
term--but no one seems to be doing anything substantive about it.
Several states send delegations to the U.S. House of Representatives that do not even come close to representing the way the sames states voted presidentially. Here are some of the worst offenders (in no particular order):
State Dem's Total Reps % Dems % Kerry Vote
Kentucky 1 6 17% 40%
Iowa 1 5 20% 49%
Virginia 3 11 27% 46%
Florida 7 25 28% 47%
Pennsylvania 7 19 37% 51%
